With the election around the corner, we have been busy creating something fun for kiddos too. Shop baby has been full of questions, opinions, and excitement about the election and voting process. We sat down one day and thought up some fun questions for lil' peeps in the community to vote on. We are hoping that getting kids involved in voting will encourage good voting habits in the future!
We collaborated with Atlanta artist, Sarah Nueburger aka the small object..... who turned all of our ideas into the best thing ever! You may recognize Sarahs sweet illustrations from the books that she has done for chronicle books or the egg carton stamps that we sell. She's the best! Sarah illustrated a T-shirt, ballot, sticker, poster, and a coloring shirt for us and we couldn't more excited.
This is Riley (photo by gunner and lux), she is the creative director of one of our favorite companies; Little Lux. We love that she is a young, 7 year old girl boss along side her dad and is an inspiration to us all! She is sporting our "voting rules" shirt with the little lux: Strong, Smart, Bold necklace. We love it!
If you want to partake but don't live near our Athens or Atlanta shops, we haven't forgotten about you! You can pick up one of our voting rules shirts here and we also made a coloring sheet for you too!
And for you out of towners......Here is our ballot! Fill it out and send it off to our Athens or Atlanta shops~ VOTE ON!

]]>Michele taught the class all about pointillism, a technique where small, distinct dots are used in a pattern to form an image.
The group also learned about painter Marc Chagall and studied his Dream Zines. They all created their own interpretation of Chagall’s dream villages.
Later in the afternoon, Mary Catherine led a group of talented and enthusiastic fashionistas through the world of creating, designing and sewing garments! They worked so hard all week on various projects and used mediums like fabric, felt, and yarn for creation!
The first day of camp the participants stretched their fashion line they would later create! They pulled inspiration from magazines and current fashion trends to create wearable garments.
Every seamstress needs a dress foam right? The campers used a technique with saran wrap and duct tape to create a dress form that exactly matched their bodies!

At the end of the week, the superheros donned their costumes and fight the evil villains with water balloons!
In Spirit Animals + Wild Things Camp, Abby led the kids into folk tales and crafts where they learned about and created their favorite animal. They began by creating a totem of their favorite animal and then made a costume to match. By the end of the week we had an armadillo, a parrot, giraffe, cheetah, and elephant parading around the shop. It was a fun and explorative week!
Creating animal totem poles!
Smiling campers!
The campers really wanted to show off their hard work and costume making abilities so we paraded around the shop for all of the parents! They looked just like chosen spirit animal!

Worry dolls…we just loved the outfits, so creative!
You can do it!!
In Textile Design + Fibers camp, the campers used different techniques to create their own bird wings, needle felted dolls, sun prints, and Cora showing off her needle felted woodland doll…loved the details!
Their bird wings they created using foam stamps they cut out!
Their felted necklaces…they used a technique taking wet wool and rolling it into a ball to make beads!

]]>Miss Michelle started the week off with teaching the kids about the very early artwork of cave paintings.
Each student created their own cave painting, using animals and shapes to tell a story! All the while using natural paint made of beets and berries that they made themselves!!
The next day they learned the alphabet of the cavemen. They practiced writing their name using the letters and then created their own!
Next Miss Michelle, a very talented local potter, brought in some clay and they all made their own pinch pots!
On the subject of pottery they learned about greek pottery and painted their very own pot!
The last day of class they learned about portraits and they all painted their self portrait!
On to sewing…Miss Mary Catherine, an avid seamstress and textile major, taught the sewing basics to an amazing group of girls! Throughout the week, they created their own tote bags, stuffed animals, masks, and aprons! Such talent at such a young age!
We still have room in some of the summer camps…check the website or give us a call to sign up!!
]]>On the first day of Circus Camp, the kids arrived to their very own circus tent! Miss Emma greeted them with a circus book, to get inspired for their first project…circus animal masks!
Everyone had fun creating their own masks…lions, elephants, and giraffe oh my!!
Day two they decorated their own horse as a part of thier own class carousel…what a carousel it was!!
Rosalie, Greta, and Skye clearly had fun painting!
Day three they created their a lifesize clown, by tracing their silhouette. After the tracing fun, they created their own paper for their very own clown hat to be finished on the last day!
The last day of class (tear*), it was time to put together all of the projects they had been working so hard on throughout the week for a fun ending to camp…circus parade!!
After the clown hats were created, from the paper they created the day before, they worked on their train cars! What a sweet parade it was!
We had so much fun at circus camp…introducing the new class of clowns!!
We hope that everyone can join us for more fun this summer…we still have some camps available!! To see availability…check out all of the camps here!

I love the use of both flower and food components in her arrangement, as well as the simplicity and natural feel. When creating your own arrangement, make sure to play around with flowers and greens, like grasses or anything with a more substantial stalk (she used flowering chives). Another tip when creating your arrangement, is to play with different lengths, this will make the arrangement look more plentiful and everything in the bouquet will be visible!

]]>Materials needed for your own DIY Bird Wings:
First Step: Measure the wingspan (middle of the palm to other palm) and use that as your measurement for the canvas. Using a pencil, draw a straight line for the top and for the bottom, make a half circle. Using the half circle as your guide, make the points for the “feathers” and don’t worry about the pencil marks…this will be the inside of your wings. However you may want to erase the marks, as they may be visible.
Second Step: Cut the foam (or potato) in the shape of a feather using your exacto knife, this will be your stamp throughout the project! You may want to attach an extra piece of foam, so it is easier to use as a stamp.
Third Step: Pour out the paint of your choice. We used two different shades of pink and blue for both sets of wings, for a more dramatic look. Now it’s time for stamping!!
Fourth Step: With your stamp, place it in the paint and make sure to cover the stamp completely. However, make sure there is not too much paint as if may drip onto the canvas or the stamp may slide around and the texture of the feathers will not be present. With the desirable amount of paint, stamp the canvas. If using multiple colors, do one color first and then wipe off the stamp and then stamp the other color(s).
Fifth Step: Repeat step four until the canvas is covered to your liking.
Sixth Step: Lay the wings flat to dry (preferably overnight). Once they have dried completely, you can add the finishing touches. Cut about a 6 inch piece of twill tape, this is so you will be able to use your pointer finger to hold onto the wings. Either sew or glue the twill tape to the top corners of the wings, overlapping about an inch onto the wings (making a loop).
Seventh Step: Cut about a 40 in piece of twill tape and sew along the middle of the top line of the inside of the wings. This is so the middle does not sag (ties into a bow around your neck!) and you don’t have to hold your arms up all day!
And violla…you have made your own bird wings, for endless fun! Shop baby sure did!!
Here are a few variations to try as well!
As always, just have fun and try new things!!

The display was inspired by a post from Style Me Pretty (see the original post here). With their version, they made their own cups out of wax paper, however we had a bunch of snow cone cups laying around the shop, so we used them instead!
Materials for snow cone cups version:
To start: Thread the needle with your yarn of choice. It may be easier if you pre-cut your yarn to the desirable lengths for the garland. We made about 14 different lengths ranging from 32″ to 52″, it’s up to you how long an how many, but having a variety really makes an impact!
Step 2: Poke the top of the cone with the needle and thread through. This is the top cone, so make sure to leave some room to hang (roughly around 3″).
Step 3: Make a slip knot, so the cone does not slip. If you have pre-cut the yarn, remember that the cone will drop about 3.5″ (the size of the cone), so make sure you factor that in when measuring.
Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you get to the desirable length. We overlapped the cones about a 1/2″, so the knots were roughly about 3″ apart, but you can do whatever you are feeling!
Repeat all of the steps for however many garlands you would like and VOILA…you have a winter wonderland!!
Here are a few variations to try, to really make it your own!
Just have fun and try new things!!
